Carolina Spotlight: Strike Out Cancer |
COLUMBIA, S.C. –
For the second-consecutive year, the South Carolina softball program will raise money for cancer research by hosting a Strike Out Cancer day. Saturday’s doubleheader against No. 16/19 Tennessee is this year’s day, with many ways for people to make donations to help fight the deadly disease.
A supply of 250 pink Strike Out Cancer t-shirts have been secured and will be given to those making a donation of $5 or more. Gamecock fans can also donate through a silent auction, as various coaches and teams have supplied items to be given away to the highest donation. Gamecock softball jerseys and helmets signed by the team along with memorabilia from the baseball and basketball teams are among the many pieces being sold in the silent auction.
Both teams are slated to wear pink in one form or another, as South Carolina will sport black jerseys with pink lettering. There will also be a ceremonial first pitch thrown out by local cancer survivor Hannah Bilton.
Friday’s game includes a giveaway to the fans, as “fanbanas” will be handed out prior to the special 5 p.m. EDT single game against the Lady Vols. Families can also participate in an Easter egg hunt on Saturday as well.
First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Beckham Field, while Saturday’s doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. EDT.
