COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina freshman Nicole Rheinlander has been named to the 2009 SEC Track and Field Community Service Team as announced by the league office Tuesday. The team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.

Nicole has dedicated two hours every Wednesday since the start of the year with the Waverly Center After School Program, an education and enrichment program for children aged kindergarten through 10th grade. Nicole spent time as a tutor for children in the area as well. She also helped the Gamecock cross country team in preparing for Tommy Neeson’s run through Columbia for the Ronald McDonald Four Million Steps Run for Compassion.

South Carolina begins the championship season this week when the team travels to Gainesville, Fla., for the SEC Outdoor Championships held at James G. Pressley Stadium from May 14-17.
