COLUMBIA, S.C. –
In partnership with The WBCA Pink ZoneTM, South Carolina women’s basketball will kick off its 2009 Piggy Bank Project on Thu., Jan. 15. This initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The first 500 fans at the game against Florida on Thu., Jan. 15, will receive a South Carolina Women’s Basketball Piggy Bank, courtesy of Firehouse Subs. Fans are encouraged to save their change in the piggy banks and bring them back to each home game to donate the change. At the game against Mississippi on Sun., Feb. 8, Pink Zone Day, the first 500 fans that bring their banks to Colonial Life Arena will receive a South Carolina Women’s Basketball Pink Zone t-shirt.
Last year, South Carolina women’s basketball fans contributed over $3,500 to the fight against breast cancer through the Piggy Bank Project. All proceeds will go to the Kay Yow/WBCA Breast Cancer Fund.
The WBCA began the WBCA Pink ZoneTM, formerly known as “Think Pink”, in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women’s basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.
Please join South Carolina women’s basketball in the fight against Breast Cancer and participate in the Piggy Bank Project.
