Columbia, S.C. – DeAngelo Mack’s grand slam home run in the bottom of the third inning erased an early two-run deficit as the Black team defeated the Garnet squad 8-3 to win the Annual Garnet & Black World Series. Sunday’s finale was played at the new baseball facility and capped off the final weekend of fall team practice for the Gamecock baseball program.
Along with Mack’s grand slam, the Black squad also was highlighted by catcher Kyle Enders, who went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. The Gamecock junior also tallied a sacrifice fly RBI. Sophomore left-hander Will Casey earned the win after three innings of work allowing two runs on four hits. Gamecock relievers Alex Farotto and Parker Bangs hurled three scoreless innings to close out the game for the Black team. Farotto went two scoreless with Bangs hurling one inning of shutout ball.
The Garnet squad was led by designated hitter Brady Thomas and his 2-for-4 day at the plate with a solo home run. Also recording two hits was junior catcher Justin Dalles, who doubled and also scored a run.
