COLUMBIA, S.C. – Alabama scored four on Friday night and three more on Saturday to take the second game of the series, 7-0, over South Carolina at Beckham Field this weekend.

On Friday night, the Crimson Tide got out to a 4-0 lead behind runs in the first, third and fifth. Kelley Montalvo led off the game with a walk and scored on Charlotte Morgan’s groundout. They tacked on two more in the third when Lauren Parker drew a bases-loaded walk and Cassie Reilly-Boccia came in on a wild pitch. The fifth saw Brittany Rogers get an infield single, steal second, move to third on a sacrifice bunt by Reilly-Boccia before scoring on the second wild pitch from Gamecock reliever Ashley Chastain.

When play resumed on Saturday after a 15-hour break due to thunderstorms coming through the Columbia area, Alabama added three runs in the seventh, the first coming when Montalvo scored from second on an error by the Gamecock first baseman. Morgan came up with runners at second and third and singled back through the middle to drive in both runners.

Alabama pitchers Kelsi Dunne (17-1) and Morgan combined for the two-hit shutout, with Dunne getting the win for her five innings of hitless work. Freshman Kierstyn White (5-2) got the loss, allowing three earned runs in 2.2 innings of work.

The Gamecocks’ two hits came from sophomore Laura Mendes, who doubled in the sixth, and freshman Evan Childs had a single in the seventh.
