Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina junior shortstop Reese Havens has earned SEC Player of the Week honors following his performance this weekend in the season opening series vs. the East Carolina Pirates. Havens went 7-for-14 (.500) in three games with six RBI and seven runs scored. His performance included a career-high five hits and, a home run and five RBI in the 22-5 season-opener on Saturday in game one of the doubleheader.

Havens hit two homers on the weekend, one in each game of the doubleheader and tallied at least one hit and one run scored in all three contests this weekend. The junior captain finished with an on-base percentage of .611 as well as he drew four walks and had a slugging percentage of .929. He also had 13 total bases to lead the team.

South Carolina comes in at No. 3 in the week’s Collegiate Baseball Top 30 with a ranking of No. 10 in this week’s Baseball America Top 25 as well. The Gamecocks return to action on Wednesday afternoon against UNC-Asheville. First pitch is set for 3 pm at Sarge Frye Field.
