Nashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s Ryan Flaherty’s bases loaded RBI single to right field in the bottom of the 13th inning lifted the Commodores to a 4-3 win over South Carolina in the first of a three-game SEC series at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tenn. David Macias followed with a single to left and Alex Feinberg also drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch loading the bases and setting the stage for Flaherty. Already with four hits including a game-tying homer in the ninth inning for Vanderbilt, Flaherty connected with the game-winner on Todd’s 3-2 pitch through the right side to seal the victory for the Commodores.

Cisco was able to get out of the jam though against the next hitter as he forced Curt Casali to ground into a 6-3 double play to end the frame.
Carolina tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Vanderbilt starter Mike Minor pitched a perfect first three innings and had retired the first 10 batters until Whit Merrifield tagged him with a solo home run to left centerfield. Merrifield drilled the first pitch he saw from Minor for his third round tripper of the year. Carolina has now hit a home run in 13 of 14 games this season.
The Commodores regained the lead in the seventh inning. Brian Harris hit a sharp hit ball up the middle off of Cisco to reach first on a base hit. David Macias followed with a bunt single down the first base line to give Vanderbilt runners on first and second with no out.
