Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore baseball player Parker Bangs has been selected to play in the 2008 Coastal Plains League All-Star Game scheduled for July 22, 2008 at McCrary Park in Asheboro, N.C. Bangs is in his second summer playing in the CPL for the Fayetteville Swamp Dogs following his first season on the baseball diamond with the Gamecocks. He will be a member of the CPL National All-Star team.

Bangs has a 0.79 ERA in eight relief appearances with three saves and one victory. The right-hander has hurled 11.1 innings and has allowed just one earned run while striking out 12 batters. Bangs has also started 29 games in the field for Fayetteville and is hitting .263 with three homers and 21 RBI. Bangs picked up a win in relief on Tuesday night in a 5-4 win over Wilmington with two scoreless innings of relief. He also went 2-for-4 with a RBI as designated hitter.

The 2008 Coastal Plain League All-Star teams are voted upon by each of the 14 head coaches and one media representative for each club. Head coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players while Media reps are allowed.

In his freshman season with Carolina, Bangs served as a utility player and relief pitcher. Bangs made 11 starts at designated hitter and also 18 appearances in relief for the Garnet & Black. He finished batting .277 with a pair of homers and six RBI. He was 3-3 with two saves out of the bullpen as well as 34 strikeouts in 27.1 innings.
