Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina junior left-hander Arik Hempy has been named SEC Pitcher of the Week following his performance in Saturday’s 10-1 win over Auburn. In his first start against an SEC team this season, Hempy shut the Tigers out and limited them to just two hits in a season-high 6.2 innings of work with five strikeouts and four walks. After a leadoff single, he did not allow a hit until with two outs in the sixth inning.
Hempy is 3-0 on the year with a 1.86 ERA in five appearances and 19.1 innings pitched. He has struck out 19 batters with team’s batting just .182 against him. He is the fourth Carolina player this year to earn a conference weekly honor from the SEC office.
