Columbia, S.C. –
For the second consecutive year, Mike Morgan has been named the Sportscaster of the Year for the state of South Carolina by the National Sportscaster and Sportswriters Association (NSSA). Morgan earned the award for his work as the radio voice of Gamecock basketball and baseball as well as television work for football.

“I work with great people and for great people, that always helps,” said Morgan. “It’s an incredible thrill to call the games for one of the great fan bases and programs in the country”

Morgan’s radio work is heard on the Gamecock Sports Network. His television announcing takes place on such networks as CSS, ESPNPLUS, and Pay Per View. Four of his calls of Gamecock football games were featured live on ESPN GamePlan last season. He also co-hosts a sports/talk show on WIS radio in Columbia. “Primetime” can be heard from 6-8 pm Monday-Friday on 1320 AM.

Morgan is one of two SEC announcers to win this year’s prestigious NSSA award, which is now in its 48th year honoring the nation’s top sportscasters.

“The NSSA award is by far and away the greatest honor an announcer can receive,” said Morgan. “They’ve done an incredible service to the profession for nearly a half-century.”

The national winner is Joe Buck of FOX, who will be honored in late April along with Morgan and the winners from the other states. Verne Lundquist will also be recognized as the latest addition to the NSSA Hall of Fame.
