COLUMBIA, S.C. — Selections for the 2007 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship are set to be announced Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. on ESPNEWS.

The University of South Carolina is looking for an at-large bid to the 64-team field to extend its streak of NCAA appearances to 13. South Carolina had a 16-6 season that included a fourth-place finish in the Southeastern Conference after an 8-3 record. The Gamecocks have been ranked among the top 25 in the nation since early April and are currently No. 25 in the latest poll.

Individuals chosen for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be announced Wednesday on the NCAA’s Web site no later than 6 p.m. The 64-person and 32-team singles and doubles brackets will be released Tuesday, May 22. Both events take place over May 23-28 in Athens, Ga., as does the round of 16 and beyond for team competition from May 18-22.

Sophomore Gira Schofield is hoping to make a second consecutive appearance in the singles championship after becoming just the second Gamecock to reach it as a freshman last year. Schofield is ranked No. 47 in the nation, her best of the spring, and was one spot lower when she made the field in 2006.

Schofield may get the opportunity to compete in doubles as well with No. 35 ranking playing with freshman Ana Marija Zubori. The duo has been ranked as high as 18th this season and went 17-9 overall. South Carolina has not had a doubles team at NCAAs since 2002 when Kathy Boyanovich and Jennifer Radman advanced to the round of 16.
