Columbia, S.C. – Eight South Carolina players were selected on day two of the 2007 MLB Draft including three players in the first 10 rounds. South Carolina junior second baseman Travis Jones was selected in the seventh round by the Atlanta Braves with junior right-handed pitcher Wynn Pelzer going in the ninth round to the San Diego Padres and junior right handed pitcher Harris Honeycutt picked in the 10th round by the Cincinnati Reds. Arik Hempy also went in the 17th round to the Chicago Cubs with Jeff Jeffords in the 19th round to the Reds, Andrew Crisp in the 36th round to the Pittsburgh Pirates,Phil Disher in the 45th round to the San Francisco Giants and Trent Kline in the 49th round also to the Giants.

Jones was the 228th overall pick of this year’s draft. Entering this weekend’s NCAA Super Regional, Jones is batting .320 on the year with 18 HR and 65 RBI with 14 of those homers coming in SEC contests. He earned All-SEC honors at second base and was twice SEC Player of the Week. Pelzer is 2-2 on the year with a 4.93 ERA in 38.1 innings with 47 strikeouts and one save. Honeycutt will start tonight’s game one of the NCAA Super Regional vs. North Carolina. He is 8-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 90.1 innings and owns 104 strikeouts. Hempy is scheduled to start on Saturday vs. the Tar Heels in game two of the Super Regional. He is 6-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 58.2 innings with 57 strikeouts. Jeffords is 6-1 with a 2.87 ERA in 47 innings with five saves as well. Andrew Crisp entered Friday night’s game batting .299 with eight HR and 28 RBI. Disher earned first team All-SEC honors at designated hitter this year. He is hitting .327 with 15 HR and 61 RBI.
