Columbia, S.C. – Former South Carolina baseball player Steve Pearce (2004-05) has been selected to the 2007 XM All-Star Futures Game at AT&T Park in San Francisco, Calif. (home of the Giants) presented by Major League Baseball. The XM All-Star Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing against each other as part of Taco Bell® All-Star Sunday on July 8th at 1:00 p.m. (PDT) and will be televised live on ESPN2.
Pearce was a member of the 2004 College World Series team at South Carolina and earned All-America honors from Baseball America in 2005. He hit 21 home runs both seasons and was the team’s leading hitter both years as well with a .346 batting average in 2004 and a .364 clip in 2005. Pearce’s 42 home runs sits sixth highest all-time in school history. He is currently in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization playing for Altoona (Pa.) in Double-A along with former Gamecocks Kip Bouknight and Chris Hernandez.
XM will provide satellite radio play-by-play coverage of the XM All-Star Futures Game starting at 12:30 p.m. (PDT) (3:30 p.m. EDT) on XM 176 in addition to its other comprehensive live coverage from San Francisco. Taco Bell® All-Star Sunday is the first of three days of All-Star events at AT&T Park in San Francisco, culminating with the 78th All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 10th.
