Gainesville, Fla. – The Florida Gators completed the sweep over South Carolina on Sunday with a 6-1 win in Gainesville. The loss eliminated the Gamecocks from making the 2006 SEC Tournament. It marks the first time in 10 years that Carolina did not make the tournament.

Stacey Stevens picked up the win for the Gators, improving her record to 19-6. Christie Hamilton recorded the loss for Carolina, dropping her total to 15-16 on the season.

Florida jumped up 1-0 on the Gamecocks in the third inning when Kim Waleszonia doubled to right center scoring Brooke Johnson. Lindsey Cameron’s single through the left side extended the Gator lead to 3-0, scoring Waleszonia and Stacie Pestrak.

Carolina got on the board when Ashley Smith doubled to right field scoring Christie Hamilton. That cut the Gator lead to 3-1. That was the closest the Gamecocks would get as the Gators added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score, 6-1.

The Gamecocks finished the regular season with a 28-30 mark overall and, a record of 8-21 in the SEC. The win improved the Gators to 41-22 overall and 17-13 in conference play.
