Columbia, S.C – The NCAA announced the 81-team field for the 2002 NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals today with South Carolina receiving its seventh consecutive berth to the NCAA Regionals.

USC travels to the Ansley Golf Clubs’ Settin’ Down Creek in Roswell, Ga. on May 16-18. The Atlantic Coast Conference champion, Georgia Tech, will host the three-day event.

The West Regional will be held in Albuquerque, N.M. while Little Rock, Ark. will host the Central Region. Ten teams from each regional, along with the top two individuals from each region, will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 29-June 1 in Columbus, Ohio.

“I am very excited about advancing on to regionals for the seventh consecutive year,” stated Head Coach Puggy Blackmon. “Our team has consisted primarily of freshmen and sophomores. The freshman duo of All-SEC selection, Martin Rominger, and Alex Hamilton have been instrumental in making the postseason and will provide a strong nucleus to build on in 2002-2003.”

Earlier today the SEC named the 2002 ALL-SEC teams and Switzerland native, Rominger, was named Second Team All-SEC. Auburn head coach Mike Griffin was voted SEC Coach of the Year by his peers while Camillo Villegas was named SEC Player of the Year, and David Skinns was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year.
