COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 26th-ranked University of South Carolina women’s tennis team (4-1) will look to end a four-match winless streak against 27th-ranked Clemson (2-1) when it hosts the Tigers on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C. In the case of inclement weather, the match will be moved to the USC Indoor Tennis Facility.

The Gamecocks are 21-19 all-time against Clemson, with Feb. 9, 2002, marking their last win (6-1, home) against the Tigers. South Carolina women’s tennis teams have played Clemson a total of 21 times with Arlo Elkins as head coach, winning 12 and posting a streak of six consecutive wins from 1997 to 2002.

Sunday’s match is the first for the Gamecocks since a trip to College Park, Md., where they lost to Maryland, 4-3, on Feb. 3 before defeating Michigan, 6-1, on Feb. 4. During the 2006 season, South Carolina has picked up wins against the College of Charleston, Davidson and Furman, and freshman Natasa Vuckovic (Novi Sad, Serbia & Montenegro) earned SEC Co-Player of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5.

Clemson is led by freshman Frederica van Adrichem, ranked 41st in the nation in singles, and the 19th-ranked doubles team of van Adrichem and senior Daniela Alvarez. Before traveling to Columbia, the Tigers host 60th-ranked Furman on Saturday at 11 a.m.

After playing Clemson, South Carolina will head to Providence, R.I., and Boston for matches against Brown on Feb. 25 and Harvard on Feb. 26, respectively.
