Columbia, S.C. – USC first baseman Yaron Peters has been named SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Peters batted 9-for-16 on the week (.563), including 5-for-5 with a HR and six RBI in Carolina’s 17-12 win vs. Ole Miss on Friday. Fourth-ranked South Carolina won three of four games this week including a series win vs. Ole Miss.

The five hits and six RBI in one game was a season-high by an individual for South Carolina this season, and also ties a season-high by an individual in the SEC this season. . Peters reached base all six times he came up to the plate with five hits and a walk.

In Saturday’s 6-4 come-from-behind victory, Peters kept the ninth inning alive for USC with a two-out (1-2 count) double to center field. Peters would score the game-winning run on the next play (two-run HR by Brian Buscher).

Peters is batting .396 on the season has started all 48 games for the Gamecocks this season. Peters leads Carolina and the SEC in RBI with 66 and is second in the SEC in home runs (17).

Peters was named SEC Player of the Week in February following a successful weekend at the plate in USC’s first place finish at the Baseball at the Beach Tournament. This is the fourth time USC has earned Player of the Week honors from the SEC, tying a school record set last year. The Gamecocks remained ranked fourth in the latest Baseball America poll, released this afternoon.
