PROVIDENCE, R.I.-The 24th-ranked University of South Carolina women’s tennis team won five of the six singles matches to claim a 5-2 victory over Brown. The Gamecocks improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Bears fall to 3-5.

Freshman Gira Schofield, ranked 46th, defeated Daisy Ames, 7-5, 6-1, at first singles, while freshman Natasa Vuckovic beat Ashley Pariser, 7-6, 6-4, and junior Laura Ganzer downed Amanda Saiontz, 6-1, 6-0, in the second and third positions, respectively. At fourth singles, senior Danielle Wiggins claimed a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Anita Ivancevic, 6-2, 7-5, and at No. 6 singles, junior Miranda Gutierrez defeated Brett Finkelstein in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Sophomore Megan McGavock fell in the fifth spot to Sara Mansur, 2-6, 6-4, (1-0).

Ganzer and McGavock had the only doubles win for South Carolina, an 8-4 victory over Ames and Kara Zeder in the second spot. Schofield and Vuckovic fell, 9-7(4), and junior Christyn Lucas and redshirt sophomore Grace Blakely lost, 8-5, at first and third doubles, respectively.

The Gamecocks return to the courts tomorrow in Boston where they take on 13th-ranked Harvard at 11 a.m.
