HICKORY, N.C. – The South Carolina men’s golf Garnet team captured the team title and freshman Allen Koon finished tied for first on Tuesday at the Billy Joe Patton Intercollegiate, played at the Country Club of Hickory, N.C., (Par 72, 6,610 yards) and hosted by Lenoir Rhyne College. USC Garnet finished with a team score of 579 to outdistance second-place Newberry College by nine strokes.
USC held a four-stroke lead at the conclusion of the first round.
Koon shot an even-par 72 in the second round and placed in a tie for first with Catawba’s Derek Paschal. Freshman Mark Silvers carded a second-round 74 and tied for fifth place. Sophomore Warren Thomas and redshirt sophomore David Kite both tied for eighth, while senior Robert Svensson rounded out the Carolina lineup in a tie for 23rd.
The South Carolina golf team is in action this weekend, Oct. 15-16, at The Ridges Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn. Senior Eirik Johansen, freshman Florian Fritsch, redshirt freshman Patrick Cunning, sophomore Mark Anderson and freshman Baker Elmore will compete for the Gamecocks.
