Chapel Hill, N.C. – – The South Carolina women’s golf team fired a 37-over-par 325 and is in 16th place after Friday’s first round at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational played at the UNC Finley Golf Course.
Junior Jenna Pearson led the way for Carolina with a seven-over-par 79. Her three birdies on the day were the most for any Gamecock. Senior Laura McCaslin, who finished with an eight-over-par 80 and sophomore Blythe Worley, who carded a nine-over-par 81 playing as an individual, were the only other Carolina golfers to record a birdie on the day, with each player firing a birdie on one hole.
Senior Erica Battle finished her day with a nine-over-par 81, with sophomores Whitney Simons and Camila Mori firing a 13-over-par 85 and a 14-over-par 86 respectively.
Round two action resumes Saturday.
