Sept. 26, 2005

COLUMBIA, S.C. –

Louisiana State University was originally scheduled to host the event, but due to damage from Hurricane Katrina in the area, the conference had to select a new site for the championships. South Carolina was awarded the bid, marking the second time ever for USC to host the event. The first time South Carolina hosted the Championships was in 1997.

“We are excited to host the 2005 SEC Cross Country Championships,” said USC Athletics Director Eric Hyman. “Due to the hardships of Hurricane Katrina, it is unfortunate that LSU will not be able to host the meet this year. It is our privilege to offer support and assist both LSU and the conference by hosting this event. We are very grateful to Fort Jackson for allowing us to use Hilton Field as the competition venue, and we are looking forward to the SEC teams coming to Columbia.”

There is no admission for the championships and it is open to the public.
