Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina baseball team (28-5) returns to action on Wednesday night as the Gamecocks travel to the upstate for a Wednesday night non-conference tilt at Clemson. First pitch at Doug Kingmore Stadium is set for 7:15 p.m. and the game will be televised on CSS-TV. Live audio and live stats will also be available at www.uscsports.com.

South Carolina will send freshman RHP Andrew Cruse to the mound. Cruse is 3-0 on the year with one save in 21 2/3 innings pitched and a 2.49 ERA. Wednesday night will be Cruse’s first career start. Cruse’s third victory of the season came in a relief performance of game two of the SC-Clemson series this year. Cruse went two 1/3 innings and allowed no runs on two hits as USC defeated the Tigers 6-5. Clemson’s starter for Wednesday night is to be announced. Clemson plays a Tuesday night game at Western Carolina.

The in state rivalry between South Carolina and Clemson resumes on Wednesday at Clemson’s Doug Kingsmore Stadium. A week later, April 20, Clemson goes to Sarge Frye Field to complete the four-game 2005 series. Its 7 o’clock next Wednesday. Carolina took a 2-0 lead in the season series with two victories March 12 at Clemson and March 13 in Columbia. The Gamecocks won 6-3 at Clemson and completed the weekend sweep the next day with a three run eighth inning rally to win 6-5 at Sarge Frye Field. Clemson leads the overall series, which dates back to 1899, 157-110-2. Coach Ray Tanner moved one game above .500 in his personal Carolina record against Clemson at 15-14.
