Columbia, S.C. – The Gamecock softball team will attempt to snap a four-game losing streak Tuesday as they host the North Carolina Tar Heels in a 4 p.m. doubleheader. Both teams have 20-14 overall records so far this season. The Gamecocks lead the series 44-10 over the Tar Heels.

South Carolina is coming off of a two-game loss to No. 25 Auburn this past weekend, while UNC currently has a three-game losing streak and just suffered a 3-2 loss to Penn State at the Carolina Classic this past weekend. USC is the third SEC team the Tar Heels will have faced so far this season. UNC is 1-1 against SEC teams this year with a 10-2 win over Kentucky and a 1-0 loss to Alabama.

USC is 1-3 against ACC teams so far this year. The Gamecocks have suffered losses to Virginia Tech twice and Florida State. USC’s lone ACC victory came against Georgia Tech, then ranked No. 15. South Carolina is 15-9 in non-conference play while North Carolina is 18-10.

Marissa May leads the Tar Heels with a .348 average and is second on the team in runs with 19. Anna Evans leads the team in hits with 29 and in runs with 21. Casey Testa and Jessica Young both lead the team in RBIs with 18.

The Gamecocks continue to be led by senior Meghan Cornett, freshmen Lisa Longo and Jessica Josker and sophomore McKenna Hughes. Cornett leads in hitting with .387 and 43 hits. Josker is second in hitting with a .350 average and also has 43 hits. Hughes has a team leading 27 RBIs while Longo is second with 24.

USC also currently has a 4-game win streak against UNC and their last loss to the Tar Heels came in 2002. The Gamecocks lost the doubleheader 9-8 and 8-1 in Chapel Hill.

Tuesday’s promotion is “After School Special” day. All school-aged children get in free.
