Columbia, S.C. – The Southeastern Conference announced South Carolina first baseman Meghan Cornett as the SEC Player of the Week for the week ending March 13. Cornett helped lead the Gamecocks to a 5-1 record last week as she hit a team leading .476 and had five RBIs. This marks the second straight week the Gamecocks have landed the SEC Player of the Week selection.

The Cocoa, Fla. native recorded 10 hits in 21 at bats including two doubles and a home run. Cornett also drove in a run in four of the six games USC played last week. She currently has a nine-game hitting streak and scored the eventual winning run in USC’s game three win over No. 12 LSU.

This is the second time of her career that Cornett has received this honor. In 2002, her freshman year, she was one of two Gamecocks to earn the honor that season.

USC will continue SEC action tomorrow when they host No. 5/6 Tennessee in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
