COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 25th-ranked South Carolina (13-6) softball team returns home for a seven-game home stand as they host UNC-Greensboro (13-3-1) in a doubleheader on Wed. March 6 at 3 p.m. This will mark only the third time the two teams have met. The series is tied 1-1 with the Gamecocks winning the last meeting. In 1997, USC beat Greensboro 5-0 in the NCAA Regional held in Columbia. The Gamecocks eventually won the regional and earned a trip to the Women’s College World Series.

The Gamecocks are coming off of a 4-3 road trip. Swept at North Carolina, USC then played in the Plant City Strawberry Fest Tournament in Plant City, Fla. and lost to 8th-ranked Michigan 5-0. The Gamecocks then won four straight games beating Ohio, Missouri, Michigan State and Central Michigan, to finish second-place at the tournament.

In the game against Missouri, head coach Joyce Compton picked up her 700th Carolina victory while senior pitcher Megan Matthews completed her 105 game, making her the sole all-time leader in South Carolina history for complete games.

The UNC-Greensboro game is also “After School Promotion Night”. All Gamecock fans 18 & under will be able to attend the game for just $1.
