Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina softball assistant Anglea Thompson will be inducted into the Austin Peay Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 15 in Clarksville, Tenn. Thompson played for the Lady Govs from 1992-95 and became the most prominent pitcher in the history of the program. Thompson has coached the Gamecock pitching staff since the 2000-01 season and has collected a 155-84-1 record (.646).

At Austin Pey, the Nashville native was a three-time first team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection and was named to the OVC all-tourney team in 1995. Of her 106 career starts, Thompson completed 103 and of them and was the winning pitcher in 69 percent of the team’s total victories during her four-year career.

Today, Thompson still holds APSU school records for games pitched (124), games started (106), complete games (103), wins (57), shutouts (25), innings pitched (737.6) and strikeouts (789). She also holds four single-season records and the top two spots for single-season strikeouts by a pitcher at APSU: 282 (1993) and 242 (1995). During her career, Thompson was ranked in the Top-10 among Division I pitchers in ERA (1993) and strikeouts in 1993 and ’95.

At South Carolina, Thompson has guided pitching standouts in Megan Matthews and Stacey Johnson. Since her arrival, USC’s pitchers have recorded six no-hitters from Matthews, Johnson, and Aleca Johnson.

Thompson will be inducted along with Chuck Abbott, APSU’s highest-drafted baseball player and Amanda Behrenbrinker, a former APSU women’s basketball star. The banquet is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Dunn Center in Clarksville.
