– Davy Gregg’s stolen base in the third inning was his 14th on the season. He leads USC. Bryan Triplett stolen base was his seventh on the season while Steven Tolleson recorded his seventh.

– Steve Pearce’s homer in the sixth inning was the 20th of the season. He has hit four home runs in the last four games.

– Fletcher retired eight ECU batters in a row before Ryan Jones double to right field in the eight inning. In the 2004 NCAA Tournament, he has pitched seven and 2/3 innings allowing seven hits, and three runs while striking out nine.

– Chad Blackwell has recorded a save in his last six appearances.

– The win was Matt Campbell’s 20th in his career.

East Carolina (51-12)

– This is their second ever Super Regional appearance. (Tennessee, 2001)

– Ryan Norwood extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a double to left field. The double was the team’s 148th on the season and that tied the single season record that was set in 1999. In the ninth inning he doubled again to give him 34 on the season. That double tied the Conference USA mark. The double by Ryan Jones in the eighth inning broke the record giving ECU 149 on the season.

– Greg Bunn’s six strikeouts moved him into third place for strikeouts in a season. (115) Larry Trayton recorded 119 in the 1961 season.

– ECU had five players in scoring position in the first five innings but failed to score.

– Matt Bishop came into the game walking only one batter and allowing only two home runs in 29 2/3 innings. He 1/3 of an inning he faced four batters, walked two and allowed a lead-off home run to Steve Pearce.
