Columbia, S.C. – Fifth ranked South Carolina (40-13, 16-11 SEC) finishes off the SEC season this weekend with a three-game series at eighth ranked Georgia (35-17, 17-10 SEC) beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. Carolina heads into the weekend series on an eight-game winning streak and have won 15 of the last 18 games played including the last four SEC series vs. Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn and Tennessee. Friday night’s game will be televised live on CSS-TV.
South Carolina leads the overall series with the Bulldogs 42-34, including a 24-14 edge since South Carolina joined the SEC in 1992. South Carolina has swept Georgia the last two seasons, 2002 in Athens and last year in Columbia. The sweep in 2002 led South Carolina to its second SEC championship and last year’s series victory clinched the Gamecocks’ fourth SEC Eastern Division title over the last five seasons.
Heading into the final weekend of SEC play, the race is as tight as ever with six teams having a chance to win the SEC title. With a 16-11 SEC record, Carolina is one game behind Georgia (17-10) in the Eastern Division race and also one game behind Arkansas (17-10) and Ole Miss (17-10) in the overall SEC race. LSU and Florida also have 16-11 records and are tied with South Carolina.
Live GAMETRACKER stats and live audio will be available at USCSPORTS.COM for all three games. The game will also be broadcast on all Gamecock Baseball Radio affiliates with Mike Morgan and Tom Price calling the action.
