Browns Summit, North Carolina – The University of South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 310 (+22) Friday to finish 14th in the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament.
Senior Kory Thompson leads the Gamecocks after firing a two-over 74 on day one and sits in 15th place. Senior Adrienne Gautreaux and sophomore Erica Battle ended up tied for 47th place as both shot a six-over-par 78 Friday. Freshman Jenna Pearson shot an eight-over-par 80 en route to a first-day finish in 66th place. Megan Miller shot a 11-over par 83 in Friday’s first round to finish in 83rd place on the day.
Three-time defending champion Duke leads the tournament after the Blue Devils carded a one-over-par 289 in the first round. Auburn and Purdue are five strokes back at 294 with two rounds still to go. Purdue’s Beth Hermes and 2002 Bryan National Medalist Virada Nirpathpongporn of Duke each hold a share of the individual lead after both carded two-under-par 70’s in the windy and cold condition
Co-hosted by Wake Forest and North Carolina-Greensboro, the seventh annual Bryan National Collegiate takes place at the par 72, 6064 yard Bryan Park Champions Course in Browns Summit, North Carolina.
