BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference (SEC) office announced Monday that South Carolina softball’s Samantha Jennings is the SEC Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8. Jennings, a senior third baseman led the Gamecocks as she went 7-for-13 and hit .538 in doubleheaders against Charlotte and North Carolina. Jennings scored six runs and had seven RBI to help lead USC to a 4-0 weekend.

The Placentia, Calif. native was one of three players to hit two home runs in a game this weekend, she scored a run in every game but one and now has a four-game hitting streak. Jennings drove in four of USC’s six runs in the North Carolina series and was responsible for the teams 3-2 win over the Tar Heels.

With nine career homeruns, Jennings now ranks ninth on USC’s all-time home run leaders list. This is the first time Jennings has received this honor. It is the first player of the week honor for USC since Meghan Cornett in 2002. For the program, it is Carolina’s fifth player of the week honor. Last year, USC earned three pitcher of the week honors.
