South Carolina Travels for Matches at Arkansas and Missouri

Columbia, S.C. – No. 45 South Carolina hits the road for its next set of SEC matches at No. 36 Arkansas and Missouri. The Gamecocks take on the Razorbacks Friday at 6 p.m. ET before facing the Tigers at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday.
 
Gamecock Notables

  • South Carolina is 7-6 this season with a 2-2 record in SEC play. In last weekend’s action, the Gamecocks upset then-No. 16 Tennessee 4-1.
  • In the win over Tennessee, South Carolina secured the doubles point with wins in the Nos. 2 and 1 positions, respectively.
  • Megan Davies and Sarah Hamner paired together at the No. 1 doubles spot to earn wins over the No. 10 Tennessee team and the No. 62 Georgia team. They are 2-0 in dual matches this year.
  • Davies clinched the win over Tennessee in three sets to upset the No. 75 player in the nation.
  • Misa Malkin contributed to the win over the Lady Volunteers with a point in the No. 5 spot. In the match against then-No. 23 Georgia, she notably held off the No. 79 player from winning. 
  • No. 85 Elise Mills leads the Gamecocks in singles with a 9-3 record. Close behind is Hamner with an 8-1 record.
  • The Gamecocks have a winning record in the top four singles spots as well as in the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles positions.

 
Scouting the Razorbacks

  • No. 36 Arkansas moved up 29 spots in the latest ITA National Rankings sponsored by Tennis Point. It was the largest jump in rankings this week.
  • The Razorbacks are 10-3 including a 3-0 record in SEC play. It is also undefeated at home.
  • Arkansas most recently topped then-No. 39 Vanderbilt 4-3 and then-No. 43 Kentucky 6-1.
  • Arkansas is on a six-match winning streak, only giving up eight of the 35 possible points in the combined matches.
  • The Razorbacks have one ranked doubles pair in No. 28 Morgan Cross/Tatum Rice. They have no other individual rankings.
  • Arkansas has won the doubles point in each of its SEC matches.
  • The lone freshman and eight returners on the Razorbacks roster are led by head coach Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar, assistant coach Tucker Clary and volunteer assistant coach Shannon Hudson.

 
The Arkansas Series

  • South Carolina is 27-8 all-time against Arkansas and is on two match winning streak.
  • The Gamecocks have defeated the Razorbacks 11 times on the road.
  • In each of the previous two meetings, South Carolina came out on top in a 4-0 decision. One of those wins took place in Fayetteville, Ark.
  • The Razorbacks have not defeated the Gamecocks in Arkansas since 2015 in a close 4-3 match.
  • The Gamecocks last dropped the doubles point to the Razorbacks in 2017.

 
Scouting the Tigers

  • Missouri is 6-10 on the season including a 1-2 SEC record. At home, it is 2-0.
  • The Tigers’ only conference win came in a 4-3 upset against then-No. 43 Kentucky.
  • Missouri’s longest winning streak this spring is two matches with wins over Southeast Missouri and Central Arkansas.
  • Ahead of Sunday’s match, Missouri will host No. 16 Florida.
  • The eleven Tigers are led by head coach Chris Wootton and assistant coach Kararina Adamovic.

 
The Missouri Series

  • The Gamecocks are undefeated against the Tigers with a 9-0 record.
  • South Carolina has won four matches at Missouri.
  • In the last road contest, South Carolina defeated Missouri 4-0.
