Gamecocks Compete in USATF Outdoor Championships

Several current and former University of South Carolina track & field athletes competed at the USATF Outdoor Championships, held at historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene over the weekend.

Standout Rachel Glenn highlighted the Gamecocks’ efforts with a second-place finish and a silver medal in the women’s high jump after clearing 1.90 meters (6-2.75). That effort makes her eligible for the World Championships team, which will be announced on Wednesday. Glenn, the 2021 NCAA Outdoor high jump champion, finished third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships two weeks ago when she cleared 1.86m (6-1.25).

Former Gamecock Josh Awotunde took home a bronze medal with a third-place finish in the men’s shot put. Awotunde, who is also eligible for a spot on the World Championships team, posted a best mark of 21.51 meters (70-7). Awotunde was a silver medalist at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as a member of the Gamecocks.

On the track, former Gamecocks Wadeline Jonathas finished fourth in the Nike Women’s 400 meters, clocking at time of 50.84, while Quincy Hall placed fifth in the men’s 400m Hurdles in 48.33. Jonathas, who was an NCAA Champion at 400 meters in 2019, is eligible for the 4x400m relay pool at the World Championships.

In the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, also held in Eugene, Jayla Jamison won the women’s 200m dash with a time of 22.93. Tierra Frasier finished seventh in 23.70. Jamison also placed fourth in the women’s 100m with a time of 11.17 seconds, making her eligible for the 4×100 relay pool at the World Championships. Both of Jamison’s marks represented career best efforts.
