Gamecocks T-5th After 36 Holes in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. — South Carolina is T-5^th at 8-under after 36 holes of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational on Saturday. The Gamecocks shot 288 (E) and followed that up with a 280 (-8) in round two.
 
Junior Jack Wall is T-7^th at 7-under. He shot 69 (-3) in round one and 68 (-4) in round two. He made 11 birdies total (T-5^th in the field) on the day to lead the Gamecocks. The Brielle, N.J., native is seeking his third top-five in his last four starts.
 
Redshirt senior transfer Evans Lewis fired two red numbers as well and sits T-13^th at 4-under for the tournament. He shot 71 (-1) in the opening round and followed that up with a 69 (-3) in round two that featured six birdies. Lewis had 10 red numbers on his scorecard the opening 36 holes. He and Wall are two of 17 players with double digit birdies through 36 holes.
 
Senior All-American Ryan Hall is T-34^th at 2-over after posting back-to-back rounds of 73 (+1). Hall had just one birdie in round two, making all pars on the front nine. The defending champion will need a special final round like last year when he shot 64 (-8) to make a climb up the leaderboard on Sunday.
 
Sophomore Rafe Reynolds and freshman Nathan Franks are each T-45^th at 4-over. Reynolds shot 75 (+3) and 73 (+1). He had 16 pars and a bogey in the second round. Franks had a tough opening 18 with a 78 (+6). He bounced back in round two with a 2-under 70. Franks started round two with five-straight birdies and was 6-under through nine holes.
 
No. 12 Texas has opened up a 16-shot lead after shooting the two lowest scores in the field. The Longhorns opened with a 272 (-16) in round one and then went low again with a 266 (-22) in the second round. The Coody brothers, Parker and Pierceson, are tied for the individual lead at 11-under. Six players sit withing four shots of them at the top of the leaderboard.
 
The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 24 Illinois and Northwestern for the final round on Sunday. Reynolds will lead things off for Carolina at hole one at 9:15 a.m. (ET).
