Gamecock Women's 4X400-Meter Relay Team Runs Top-Three NCAA Time

The Carolina quartet's time is also the No. 2 time in school history on Saturday

CLEMSON—The South Carolina track and field women’s 4X400-meter relay team ran one of the nation’s best times this season on the second day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex.

The 4X400-meter relay squad of Makenzie Dunmore, Stephanie Davis, Alysia Johnson and Aaliyah Pyatt ran in the fastest 4X400-meter relay race of the year. The women’s quartet crossed the line with a blazing fast time of 3:29.36.

The Gamecocks’ time puts them at No. 3 in the country and is the second-fastest run by a Carolina women’s quartet ever.

“(That race) was great,” said head coach Curtis Frye. “The girls did a great job. It was good to see them ready to go. I liked where the splits were at on all of our legs.

“I think we can run 3:27. We’ve got Rachel Glenn, who ran on our 4X400 team at Indoor Nationals last year. She didn’t run it today, but she is an option and is someone we know can run well. Some of our girls are finding their rhythm, too.”

Evan Miller made a return to the track, and he ran a new indoor personal best in the 200 meters. He clocked in with a time of 20.78, which moved him to No. 4 in school history. Miller also improved to No. 11 in the NCAA, which catapulted him into qualifying position with two weeks left in the qualification window.

Tierra Frasier ran an impressive race in the 200 meters on the women’s side. She clocked in with a time of 23.29, which moved her up to No. 14 in the country and No. 6 in school history. Frasier is nearing the edge of qualification in the event. The top 16 individuals in the country in each event go to the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

The Gamecocks saw other personal bests all around the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex.

Dylan Targgart threw a personal best in the men’s shot put. He tossed it 18.21m/59-9 and finished eighth in a competition that featured some of the country’s best throwers.

Shaianne Sipsey jumped a personal best in the women’s triple jump. She jumped 12.58m/41-3.25 for a new personal best in the triple jump. Sipsey moved into No. 8 in school history in the event.

Jackson Marseille was one centimeter from matching his indoor personal best in the men’s high jump. He cleared 2.13m/6-11.75 for a new season-best clearance and a top-five placement.

Jack Mensch ran 1:52.94 in the men’s 800 meters. That time dropped his personal best by over a full second.

The Gamecocks return home for the UofSC Indoor Open on Friday. Action is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Friday inside of the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex.
