Allden Named Winner of Ron Buss Service Award
The Ron Buss Service Award is the second Coaching Education Award Allden has earned
COLUMBIA—Cross country coach and track and field assistant coach Andrew Allden was named the winner of the Ron Buss Service Award, the USATF announced Monday.
“It’s an honor for my body of work to be recognized,” Allden said. “I’ve been involved in coaching education since 1998. I like to think I’m just as passionate about coaching education as I am about coaching because I believe very strongly in having educated coaches.”
According to the USATF, The Ron Buss Service Award recognizes a coach whose career has a distinguished record of service in leadership roles, teaching, strengthening curricula, as well as advising and mentoring coaches.
The USATF recognizes the winner as a leader whose counsel others seek, and who selflessly gives his/her time and talents to the profession.
Allden has also won the Joe Vigil Sports Science, which is given to recognizes a coach who is prolific in the areas of scholarship and teaching. He or she contributes to coaching literature by presenting cutting edge sport science research findings through presentations and publications, according to the USATF.
Allden returned to the South Carolina track and field and cross country coaching staff before the 2013-14 season. He serves as the cross country coach and assistant coaches overseeing distance running. He was also a member of the Gamecocks’ coaching staff from 1996-2000.
