Gamecocks in the Show - 2021 Season in Review

The Gamecocks had 10 players in the Show this season, which included an All-Star and two alumni in the postseason. Here’s a breakdown of the Gamecocks in the Show in 2021.
 

• Jackie Bradley Jr. (Milwaukee Brewers) – Bradley Jr. and the Brewers were in the National League Divisional Series, where they fell to the Atlanta Braves in four games. He played in 134 games in the 2021 season and had 14 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 29 RBI to go along with seven stolen bases.
• Wil Crowe (Pittsburgh Pirates) – Crowe made 26 appearances with 25 starts for the Pirates this season, winning four times and striking out 111 batters in 116.2 innings pitched. He allowed just one hit in six innings of work in a win at San Francisco on July 24.
• Grayson Greiner (Detroit Tigers) – Greiner played in 31 games for the Tigers this season with four doubles, a home run and seven RBI. He had a home run at Houston on April 12.
• Whit Merrifield (Kansas City Royals) – Merrifield had another stellar year for the Kansas City Royals, making his second All-Star appearance and leading the American League with 40 stolen bases to go along with 184 hits, which was third in the AL. He played all 162 games this season, hitting .277 with 42 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 74 RBI.
• Jordan Montgomery (New York Yankees) – Montgomery and the Yankees advanced to the AL Wild Card game, falling to the Boston Red Sox. He made 30 starts for the Yankees this season and had a 3.83 ERA with 162 strikeouts in 157.1 innings pitched. Montgomery had six wins on the year and had 12 strikeouts in a start against Baltimore on Sept. 16.
• Clarke Schmidt (New York Yankees) – Schmidt spent most of the season on the injured list, but made two appearances and a spot start for the Yankees in 2021. He had six strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched.
• Max Schrock (Cincinnati Reds) – Schrock hit .288 with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs and 14 RBI for the Reds in 53 games this season. The highlight of 2021 was his five-hit performance at the New York Mets on August 1 that included a home run and three runs scored.
• Christian Walker (Arizona Diamondbacks) – Walker played in 115 games for the Diamondbacks this season and had 23 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 46 RBI while scoring 55 runs. Walker was 4-for-5 at San Francisco on Sept. 30.
• Tyler Webb (St. Louis Cardinals) – Webb made 22 appearances for the Cardinals in 2021 and had 14 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched. He had two holds on the year and pitched a perfect inning at Arizona on May 29.
• Taylor Widener (Arizona Diamondbacks) – Widener was 2-1 with a 4.35 ERA in 23 appearances and 13 starts for the Diamondbacks in 2021. He struck out 73 batters in 70.1 innings pitched and held opponents to a .241 batting average. He had seven strikeouts in back-to-back games vs. San Francisco and at San Diego on August 2 and 7.
