Hamner Advances to ITA All-American Championships Semifinals

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Freshman Sarah Hamner defeated the No. 7 player to earn her spot in the main draw singles semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships on Friday. She continues to make program history as the first Gamecock to ever reach the semifinals in the singles main draw in the event.

In the quarterfinals, Hamner faced No. 7 Irina Cantos of Ohio State. Hamner posted a commanding first set win, only allowing Cantos to claim two games. The second set was more closely contested, but the South Carolina newcomer came out on top in a 6-4 decision. Cantos was Hamner’s second top-10 opponent this fall, making this her 10th upset so far.

Hamner will compete in the semifinals on Saturday morning at the Live to Play Tennis Club Mount Pleasant campus. She will face the winner of the match between No. 44 Taisiya Pachkaleva of Pepperdine and No. 18 Salma Ewing of Southern California.
