Gamecocks Perfect on Final Day of Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – South Carolina edged out its competitors at the Wolverine Invitational to finish the day undefeated and earn a top-30 doubles upset. Doubles pair Ana Cruz and Misa Malkin upset the No. 28 team to earn their second win together this fall.
 
Gamecock Notables

• Cruz and Malkin faced No. 28 Mary Lewis and Maja Pietrowicz of Michigan State and took the Spartans down in a 6-3 decision.
• Elise Mills and Lindsay Tulenko finished the weekend 3-0 in doubles with a 6-3 win over Michigan State’s Charlotte Gisclon and Lauren Lemonds.
• In singles, Mills dropped the first set against Lindsay Zieglar of Western Michigan but came back to win the second set 6-4. The match went to a third set super tiebreak in which Mills emerged victorious 1-0 (7).
• Malkin’s singles match was closely contested with the first two sets going to a tiebreak. She took the first set 7-6 (4) but dropped the second set 7-6 (5) to Western Michigan’s Ana Karen Guadino. From there, Malkin settled in to claim the win with a 1-0 (1) decision in the third set super tiebreak. 
• Both Cruz and Tulenko won their singles matches against their Western Michigan opponents in straight sets.

 
Cruz, Mills, Tulenko and Malkin will return to Columbia for practice ahead of the Charlotte Fall Invite.
