Gamecocks Earn Two Wins on Day 2 of the Wolfpack Invitational Ranked Spotlight
CARY, N.C. – South Carolina came away with two straight-set wins in singles from Sarah Hamner and Allie Gretkowski on day two of the Wolfpack Invitational Ranked Spotlight.
Allie Gretkowski played one singles match against Nandini Sharma of UCF. Gretkowski notched a commanding 6-0 win in the first set and did not look back. She topped Sharma with a 6-3 second set win to advance in her bracket.
Newcomer Hamner played her first match against No. 32 Cameron Morra of North Carolina. Hamner dropped the first set 6-3 but won the second set 6-2 to force Morra to a third set. Morra prevailed, winning the third set 6-2.
In her second match, Hamner got to work quickly, winning the first set against Grace Piper of Southern California 6-4. Hamner carried that momentum into her second set, sweeping Piper to earn the win.
The Gamecocks will continue in the tournament with two rounds of singles play tomorrow.
