Gamecocks Receive Academic Awards From ITA

South Carolina Named ITA All-Academic Team for Eighth Year in a Row

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Seven members of the South Carolina women’s tennis team were recognized as Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes on Monday, and the team was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the eighth year in a row.

The Gamecocks typically see more than half of their roster earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, and today’s announcement was no different. Silvia Chinellato, Kendall Couch, Ana Cruz, Megan Davies, Allie Gretkowski, Emma Shelton and Lindsay Tulenko were this season’s honorees.

Chinellato became the only Gamecock in school history to earn the award five times after using her extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA following the cancellation of the 2020 season. Davies snagged her fourth ITA Scholar-Athlete award, making her one of just six Gamecocks to pick up the accolade four or more times. Couch, Cruz and Shelton each received their second nod on the list, while South Carolina’s two freshmen Gretkowski and Tulenko each picked up their first.

A student-athlete must have at least a 3.5 grade point average for the academic year to receive the ITA Scholar-Athlete award, and a team must have a 3.2 GPA for the team award.
