Cory Barton

Cory Barton

Cory Barton is the head athletic trainer for the South Carolina baseball programs.

A native of Needmore, PA., Cory graduated with a Bachelor of Science in physical education and sport with an emphasis in athletic training from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, PA.

Cory came to South Carolina after 18 years in the Chicago White Sox minor league system where he was able to be the athletic trainer at every level.  He spent 2005-2010 in Bristol, VA (Rookie), 2011-2012 in Winston-Salem, NC (High A), 2013 in Kannapolis, NC (Low A), 2014-2017 in Phoenix, AZ (Rookie), 2018-2019 in Birmingham, AL (AA), and 2021-2022 in Charlotte, NC (AAA). Cory was named Appalachian League Trainer of the Year in 2007 and 2009.  Her also served as the Carolina League Athletic Trainer for the All-Star Game and worked in the Arizona Fall League (Salt River Rafters) in 2012.

During the 2011 and 2012 off seasons while in baseball, Cory also served as a civilian athletic trainer at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ.  He had the opportunity to work alongside military personnel from all branches but mainly the United States Air Force.

Prior to his professional career in baseball, he served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Blairsville High School in Blairsville, PA (1998-2003), Central High School in Duncansville, PA and Northern Bedford High School in Loysburg, PA (2004).

He is certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and is an Instructor for the American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED.

Cory and his wife, Michele, currently reside in Irmo, S.C.  They have two children, Connor and Laurel.
