Gamecocks Close Out Senior Weekend

Carolina honors six seniors this weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. —- South Carolina softball finished its weekend honoring six seniors on Sunday prior to Mississippi State securing the series with a 7-1 win at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.

Carolina seniors Kenzi Maguire, Mackenzie Boesel, Cayla Drotar, Alex Fulmer, Alyssa Kumiyama and Anna Vest were honored throughout the weekend for their outstanding careers in the Garnet and Black. Fulmer, Kumiyama and Vest were honored before Saturday’s game while Maguire, Boesel and Drotar were recognized Sunday.

Maguire, Drotar and Boesel all returned for an extra year this season after losing their originally scheduled senior season in 2020. All three are University of South Carolina graduates. Boesel is notably a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and is set to finish her college career with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Leah Powell (9-4) took the Sunday loss in three innings of work. She allowed three runs on five hits.

On her senior day, Drotar posted a 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Boesel had the other two South Carolina hits with a run scored.

As she has done throughout her career, Maguire took a hit by pitch on Sunday. She is the school record holder with 82 in her six-year career.
