The Gamecocks went 1-2 against No. 1 Arkansas this weekend.

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 1-2 against No. 1 Arkansas this past weekend.

NOTES:
The Gamecocks played a single game on Thursday and a doubleheader Friday against Arkansas to avoid the wet weather on Saturday. Carolina and Arkansas finished its three-game series before Texas A&M and Tennessee played a game in their three-game set.
 
The Gamecocks won the middle game of the series, 6-2, on Friday afternoon as Carolina scored four runs in the sixth and two in the eighth to earn its first win over a top-ranked team since 2016.
 
Carolina’s pitching was again outstanding this week, holding Arkansas to 20 hits in three games while recording 28 strikeouts and a .196 opponent’s batting average.
 
Andrew Peters earned the win in Friday’s game, pitching three hitless innings while recording three strikeouts. Peters picked up his fourth win out of the pen this season and has a 1.69 ERA.
 
Brady Allen homered in Friday’s second game, a solo shot in the third. He now has 10 home runs this year and is second on the team with 31 RBI.
 
Thomas Farr pitched seven innings in the series opener, recording five strikeouts and allowing five hits and three earned runs. He now has a 3.36 ERA this season.
 
Colin Burgess recorded a pair of RBI in the Friday win, including the game-winning run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly. This season, Burgess is hitting .274 with 16 RBI.
 
Brett Kerry got the last four outs of the Friday win, striking out three of the four to pick up his fourth save of the season. Kerry now has 50 strikeouts in 26.2 innings pitched this year.
 
The Gamecocks host The Citadel on Tuesday night at Founders Park before heading to Oxford, Miss., for a three-game series at Ole Miss. Saturday night’s game is on SEC Network.
