Baseball Wraps Up Homestand Hosting N.C. A&T

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina baseball team concludes its nine-game homestand to start the 2023 season on Tuesday, Feb. 28 as the Gamecocks host North Carolina A&T. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

Tuesday’s game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus. All games also will be broadcast on The Game 107.5 FM with Tommy Moody and Stuart Lake on the call.

The Gamecocks have won each of its first eight games of the 2023 season, including sweeping Penn in a three-game series this past weekend. Noah Hall struck out 12 in eight innings in a 1-0 win on Saturday while Gavin Casas and Will McGillis hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning of a 6-5 win on Sunday.

PARKING INFORMATION
Shuttle parking for the University of South Carolina baseball season will be operational at the Key Road Gravel Lot (1105 Key Road). Shuttle begins two (2) hours prior to first pitch and continues until 1 hour after the game.

For GPS purposes, the address for the Key Road Gravel Lot is 1105 Key Road, Columbia, SC 29201.

BUSINESS LOTS DURING AFTERNOON GAMES Business lot parking passes will be honored in Lot 1 ONLY for the Feb. 17, 21, 22, 24, 28 and May 9 afternoon baseball games based on availability. The businesses at 405 (Lot 9) and 401 (Lot 10) Huger Street request that you begin parking at 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. Other business lots open at 5 p.m. on weekdays. Parking is allowed in Lot 8 (the Cregger lot) on the Williams St. side for the afternoon early games.

GAME DAY PARKING INFORMATION (including public game day lots (PGDL: $10/$5 per game). All gameday lots are cashless. Please have a debit card or credit card ready for payment upon entry into parking lots.

SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA A&T
The Aggies were swept this past weekend by Appalachian State, losing 11-7 in 10 innings in the series finale. N.C. A&T opened its season with a three-game sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore. Anthony Hennings is leading the Aggies with a .375 batting average while TJ Ash hits .370 with a team best six RBI. On the mound, Justin Poris has nine strikeouts in just 3.1 innings pitched and Connor Blantz is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and nine strikeouts.

SERIES VS. NORTH CAROLINA A&T
Carolina owns a 2-1 series advantage on North Carolina A&T. The two teams played last season with the Gamecocks winning 9-4 on May 4. Braylen Wimmer had three hits in the win and Eli Jones struck out three in 3.2 innings of work.

HALL NAMED SEC CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Senior righthanded pitcher Noah Hall was named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Pitcher of the Week, the office announced Monday afternoon (Feb. 27).

Hall recorded a career high 12 strikeouts to no walks in eight innings of work as Carolina defeated Penn 1-0 on Saturday, improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Hall allowed just two runners to third base, ending those threats in the second and seventh innings with strikeouts. Hall allowed just three hits in an efficient 98 pitches across eight frames and picked up 1-2-3 innings in the third, fifth and eighth. Hall lowered his season ERA to 0.68 on the season with a .109 opponent’s batting average.

ERA AMONG NATION’S BEST
Heading into this week’s action, South Carolina is sixth in the country with a 1.88 ERA. James Hicks has thrown seven scoreless frames, including five in the midweek win over Queens. Jack Mahoney added 5.2 scoreless frames last Sunday against UMass Lowell, while Noah Hall threw eight scoreless innings in a 1-0 win over Penn on Feb. 25. Opponents are hitting just .166 against the Gamecock arms with a .233 on-base percentage.
