Rally Comes Up Short as Softball Falls to No. 4 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The South Carolina softball team (33-18, 8-14) brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh, but the Gamecocks were unable to finish the rally, falling 3-0 to No. 4 Tennessee (40-7, 18-4) Friday night (May 5).

South Carolina had opportunities in each of the first two innings. The Gamecocks loaded the bases in the first on a hit by pitch and a pair of walks. In the second, Marissa Gonzalez doubled, and Emma Sellers was hit by a pitch to put runners on second and third. Both times, the Gamecocks were unable to come through with a timely hit and bring home a run.

Carolina got singles from Jordan Fabian in the fifth and Riley Blampied in the sixth, but again were unable to push across a run.

Tennessee got a solo home run in the fourth and scored two runs on two errors in the sixth.

With two outs in the seventh, Sellers singled, and Hannah Hawley reached on a hard-hit ball to bring the tying run to the plate, but the final out was recorded to end the game.

Karsen Ochs took the loss, allowing one run in three innings of relief, scattering three hits.
