CINCINNATI – University of South Carolina alum TJ Hopkins has been called up by the Cincinnati Reds, the organization announced this afternoon (Saturday, June 3). Hopkins is the 58th Gamecock to earn the call to the Major Leagues.

Hopkins was hitting .341 with 31 runs scored, seven home runs, 27 RBI and a .977 OPS for the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Reds. He is the first Gamecock in Cincinnati since Max Schrock in 2021-22.

Hopkins played four years for the Gamecocks (2016-19) and hit .295 with 190 hits, 35 doubles, eight triples, 19 home runs and 113 RBI. He is the last Gamecock to hit for the cycle, doing it in 2019 against Valparaiso. Hopkins was a NCBWA National Hitter of the Week on March 5, 2019 to go along with SEC Player of the Week honors. He won the Tom Price Award in 2019 after the series win over Clemson.

Cody Morris was the last Gamecock to be called up to the Major Leagues, as he was on the Cleveland Guardians roster in 2022.
