Garnet Uses Big First Inning to Claim World Series TItle
The Garnet team scored seven in the first to win the series, which closes fall practice.
COLUMBIA – The Garnet team put up seven runs in the first on its way to a Garnet and Black World Series title, defeating Team Black, 7-3, and winning the series four games to two.
Garnet used RBI singles from Joe Satterfield, David Mendham and Colin Burgess and a two-run single to center by Connor Cino in the first. That was enough for the win as Garnet starting pitcher Brannon Jordan struck out three in two innings of work, allowing two hits and a run with a walk.
Burgess was 2-for-2 on the night with a walk for Garnet, while Brennan Milone went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI for team Black.
Brett Kerry struck out five in two innings of relief while Travis Luensmann had three punchouts for Team Garnet. For Black, RJ Dantin had four strikeouts in three innings, allowing just one hits, and Josiah Sightler had five strikeouts in two hitless innings.
Today’s Garnet and Black World Series game will close fall practice for the Gamecocks.
