Gamecocks Continue Play at UT Fall Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Megan Davies and Mia Horvit each stayed unbeaten in singles play Saturday, as the South Carolina women’s tennis team continued play at the UT Fall Invite in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Gamecocks squared off with Tennessee for six singles matches on the day. Horvit scored a 6-4, 6-2 victory from Johanna Silva, while Davies upended Rebeka Mertena by a 6-1, 7-6(5) score. Carolina’s Emma Shelton and Corina Spasojevic each faltered in three sets in their matches with Carly Briggs and Esther Adeshina. Tenika McGiffin and Daria Kuczer from Tennessee both won in straight sets over Gabriela Martinez and Elise Mills.

It was a busy day of doubles, with South Carolina facing Georgia and Vanderbilt for three matches each and one against the Volunteers as well. South Carolina came away with three wins in the seven contests, including one from Horvit and Davies with their 6-1 triumph over Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arseneault of UGA. Newcomers Lindsay Tulenko and Spasojevic claimed their first victories as Gamecocks with a 6-4 win against Mertena and Kylie Duckworth from Tennessee. The Gamecocks’ final win came from Shelton and Silvia Chinellato by a 6-1 margin over Anessa Lee and Marcella Cruz of Vanderbilt.

South Carolina concludes play in the UT Fall Invite on Sunday with singles matches versus Georgia and doubles contests with Vanderbilt.
