The South Carolina women’s golf team travels to Knoxville, Tennessee, this weekend for the 2003 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. The 54-hole championship runs Sunday, October 19th through Tuesday, October 21st at the Fox Den Country Club (6,201 yards, par 72). After a practice round on Saturday afternoon, USC tees off in Sunday’s first round at 10:00 a.m. with Michigan State and Ohio State.

In last year’s event, Auburn dethroned reigning Mercedes-Benz champion Purdue, as the Tigers blew by the second-day top-three to clinch the 2002 tournament title at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf, and Country Club. Playing in its third and last tournament of the fall season, the 22nd-ranked Gamecocks did not compete in the 2002 Mercedes-Benz Championship but have competed in the tournament in four of the past six seasons.

South Carolina fivesome will be comprised of Adrienne Gautreaux, Tiffany Catafygiotu, Marci Robinson, Jenna Pearson and Laura McCaslin. Erica Battle will compete as an individual.

Senior Adrienne Gautreaux leads the Gamecocks with a 74.50 stroke average after two events. Sophomore Laura McCaslin is second at 76.50.
