Montgomery, Rangers Advance to World Series

HOUSTON – Jordan Montgomery and the Texas Rangers advanced to the World Series after its 11-4 win over the Houston Astros Monday night (Oct. 23) in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Montgomery made a relief appearance in Game 7, striking out a batter and not allowing a run in 2.1 innings of work. He also made a pair of starts in the series, striking out six in 6.1 shutout innings in a Game 1 win and striking out three and allowing a pair of runs in 5.1 innings in Game 5 in Globe Life Field.

Montgomery becomes the first Gamecock to play in the World Series since Jackie Bradley and Steve Pearce both played for the Boston Red Sox when they won the title in 2018.

Christian Walker and the Arizona Diamondbacks have a chance to join Montgomery and the Rangers in the World Series. The Diamondbacks play the Philadelphia Phillies tonight (Oct. 24) in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series.

Game 1 of the World Series will be in Texas on Friday night (Oct. 27) against either the Diamondbacks or Phillies.
